Purpose

The staff of the California Energy Commission has completed a report presenting a policy roadmap for distributed generation and cogeneration in California. The roadmap includes goals for future distributed generation and cogeneration capacity, as well as policy recommendations, to facilitate achieving the goals.

This workshop is an opportunity for parties to discuss their comments on the roadmap proposal with the Electricity Committee, the Integrated Energy Policy Report Committee and Commissioner Dian Grueneich. Electricity Committee and Integrated Energy Policy Report Committee members may direct staff to modify the Roadmap, based on comments in the workshop, and issue a Committee roadmap. The Integrated Energy Policy Report Committee may use the information generated in this workshop for the 2007 Integrated Energy Policy Report. The commissioners, representing both commissions, may take information generated in the workshop into account in future distributed generation policy proposals.

Background

California's Energy Action Plan, past Energy Commission Integrated Energy Policy Reports, and decisions of the California Public Utilities Commission have given distributed generation expansion a high priority for meeting future electricity needs in California. In response to this interest, staff of the Energy Commission has drafted a policy roadmap, recommending approaches and goals for distributed generation's contribution to California's electricity supply. The Energy Commission staff report, Distributed Generation and Cogeneration Policy Roadmap for California, is available on the web at:
