About the Rulemaking

The California Energy Commission is opened a public pre-rulemaking process to adopt changes to the Building Energy Efficiency Standards contained in the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 24, Part 6 (also known as the California Energy Code) in the Spring of 2014. The formal rulemaking proceeding opened in February 2015. The Energy Commission adopted the proposed updates to its energy and water efficiency standards in Part 1, Chapter 10, and Part 6 of Title 24 on June 10, 2015 and November 12, 2015. The California Building Standards Commission formally approved the proposed 2016 Building Energy Efficiency Standards on January 19, 2016.

Concurrent to the updates of Parts 1 and 6, the California Energy Commission opened a public process and rulemaking proceeding to update the voluntary Energy Provisions of CALGreen contained in the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 24, Part 11. The Energy Commission adopted the proposed updates to its voluntary energy efficiency provisions in CALGreen on October 14, 2015. The California Building Standards Commission formally approved the proposed 2016 CALGreen voluntary energy efficiency provisions on January 19, 2016.
