Appliance Efficiency Standards Certification Rulemaking for Residential Air Filters, Residential Pool Pump and Motor Combinations, and Replacement Residential Pool Pump Motors

Docket # 17-AAER-14

Commissioner: Andrew McAllister

The California Energy Commission will consider the possible adoption of certification regulations for residential air filters and residential pool pump and motor combinations and replacement residential pool pump motors at its August 9, 2017, business meeting. The certification regulations will make permanent the amendments previously adopted as emergency regulations on March 8, 2017. The proposed regulations amend the California Code of Regulations, Title 20, Sections 1606, Table X, and 1607(d)(12) to delay the date by when residential air filters for use in forced-air heating or forced-air cooling equipment that are sold or offered for sale in the State of California must comply with the mandatory testing, certification, and marking requirements in the appliance efficiency regulations, from July 1, 2016, to April 1, 2019. The proposed regulations amend the California Code of Regulations, Title 20, Sections 1602(g) and 1606, Table X, subsection G to define permanent magnet synchronous and allow permanent magnet synchronous as a permissible motor construction type for residential pool pump and motor combinations and replacement residential pool pump motors.
