Appliance Efficiency Program Enforcement

Why is it important to comply with the Regulations?

Compliance with the Regulations is essential in helping California achieve its energy reduction goals. Regulation compliant appliances help reduce the state's energy and water consumption growth rates by ensuring that only the most efficient appliances are sold or offered.

What can you do to make sure you are in compliance?

The Commission helps homeowners, building professionals, and manufacturers comply with the Regulations by providing the Energy Standards Hotline, the Appliance Efficiency Database, and the Submittal Forms. Please also visit the Educational Resources page to find links to other tools that can assist you.

In January 2012, the Commission began rulemaking proceedings regarding the ability to fine non-compliant individuals or organizations. For more information about the current status, please visit the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Rulemaking page.

How do you report noncompliance concerns?

The Energy Commission receives noncompliance concerns in regards to the Regulations through various sources: the industry "self-policing". within the regulated communities, results of appliance market surveys, test results from our contracted test laboratory, other regulatory agencies, and from energy advocates, consumers, and others. To report a manufacturer who is not in compliance with the Regulations, please email the Appliance Efficiency Program at appliances@energy.ca.gov.
