Workshop to be held April 16 in Barstow for the
joint environmental document on the Calico Solar Project

What: The staff of the California Energy Commission and the Bureau of Land Management will conduct a public workshop on their joint Staff Assessment/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SA/DEIS) for the 850-megawatt Calico Solar Project.

When: Friday, April 16, 2010, beginning at 8am

Where:Hampton Inn and Suites

Arrangements have been made for participants unable to attend in person or minimizing travel to participate by phone or Webex.

Why: The Energy Commission staff and the BLM released the SA/DEIS for public comment on March 30, 2010. The workshop will feature discussions among the plant applicant, the public, interveners, local, state and federal agencies on the proposed plant's Environmental and engineering related topics and any outstanding issues. Emphasis will be on Air Quality, Biology, Cultural Resources, Land Use, Visual Resources, and Soil and Water Resources. Comments from the workshop and any written communication will be used to revise the SA/DEIS and complete the Supplemental Staff Assessment/Final EIS.

The Energy Commission works jointly with the BLM in reviewing applications for solar thermal power plants 50 MW and greater proposed on federal land.

The Calico Solar Project proposed on approximately 8,230 acres of federally managed land 37 miles east of Barstow requires both federal and state approval.
