As the single largest economy within the United States, and one of the most significant on a global scale, California is home to a wide range of industrial sectors. This page addresses industrial sectors that are not covered in Agriculture and Food Processing, Data Centers, or Water-Energy Nexus pages. Several energy efficiency strategies shared with the Agriculture and Food Processing focus area, such as waste heat recovery, also apply to industrial categories in this area. In 2008, the industrial sectors shown below consumed approximately 16% of California's electricity and 50% of total natural gas (excluding power generation).
