GTrans / Complete Coachworks Zero-Emissions Buses

Through the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program (ARFVTP), the California Energy Commission awarded $2.7 million to the city of Gardena's GTrans agency to conduct a battery-electric repower bus demonstration project on existing bus routes serving economically disadvantaged communities in Gardena.

The grant also allowed for five gasoline hybrid-electric buses to be remanufactured with zero-emissions technology electric propulsion systems at a Complete Coach Works facility in Riverside, California. Adding the service of remanufacturing transit buses into all-electric buses has enabled Complete Coach Works to add more than 50 employees.

The project is a partnership between Gardena, the Energy Commission, CALSTART, Complete Coach Works, and the Southern California Regional Transit Training Consortium.
